Sweven Angus was established in 2000 in the Hawkesbury Valley, just outside of Sydney, with the purchase of quality Angus cows from Green Valley, Comfort Hill and Mundoo Angus studs.
The objective of Sweven Angus is to produce consistently high quality bulls and females for sale throughout Australia. Sweven Angus breeds Angus cattle that not only thrive on pasture but perform competitively in the show ring as well. Our aim is to produce seed stock with the highest eating quality in a package that gives our customers, a real commercial edge. We are proud to produce Angus cattle with well above breed average muscle (B to B+) with dressing percentage above 56% with the ability to lay down an even fat cover and adequate intra muscular fat (marbling). Through continued investment, the stud farm has developed a strong reputation and is at the forefront of the breed in Australia.
Our recent successes through the Royal Sydney show stud and carcass competition include:
Beetaloo/Mungabroom is a 10,050km2 cattle station, on the north west edge of the Northern Territory, Barkly Tablelands, in a relatively safe 450mm to 650mm (18" to 26") rainfall zone. The country is a mixture of open treeless Mitchell grass plains, heavy soil, seasonally flooded coolibah flats, mixed with large areas of red soil country, growing blue grass and mixed grasses plus some introduced of Stylo, timbered with Supplejack, Rose Wood, Bauhinia and in areas, thick clumps of Lancewood. Very suitable for low cost, large herd cattle breeding and growing in a natural environment. Geographically placed to supply cattle North, South or East into Eastern state feeder market.
The breeding cow is aimed at a 400kg to 420kg Brahmin/Composite cross cow, utilizing the features of hybrid vigor, for fertility and early maturity, for a sale progeny of 300kg to 350kg at 18 months of age.
Water Development: We are erecting water sites at approximately 4km x 4km kilometre grid, allowing all cattle to be within 2.5km of water at any time while they are grazing, to increase energy efficiency of the cattle and utilization of the grass and fodder and to reduce the overstocking of water points by the cattle.
Fencing into areas to allow controlled grazing and resting of the natural pastures to increase plant density and volume and to supply ungrazed pasture to cattle late in the season. It also aids nutrition and feed quality, for better stock condition across the year. Fencing also allows bull control, for time of calving, so difficult in extensive areas. Mustering efficiency is increased. The planned grazing time and movement, allows for increased plant density of perennial plants, increased water retention by reduced water run off, improved mineral and energy cycle and a better biological environment, indicating an increase carbon sequestration into the soil.
